Yesterday, I teased about what I am planning to do for the rest of the year. I talked about trying some different things, and the next thing I am tackling is a big one. I have signed up to do the Baker Trail Ultrachallenge, which is a 50 mile ultramarathon.
Ever since I ran the length of the Rachel Carson trail during the Covid pandemic, I have wanted to try and do an ultramarathon. I looked at several races, but eventually settled on the Baker Trail Ultrachallenge, because it is local to me.
It is going to be a challenge, because I have only six weeks to prepare. I am in really good shape after doing Ironman 70.3 Musselman, but I need to get more miles in my legs. During my training for Musselman, I only ran a maximum of 33 miles in a week. I need to spend less time cycling, and more time running.
I had hoped to run on trails today, but unfortunately my bike wreck still has me feeling a little sore. I am much better today, so hopefully I can get a small run in tomorrow.
After the ultramarathon, which is a big one, my next event will be SwimRun NC in October with my wife. That will not be the end of my year. I have two more events I am planning to do after that.
