I have always tried to be transparent in my blog. I want other athletes to know, that things don’t always go perfectly, on a triathlon journey. If you have been following along lately, you will know that I have been dealing with a number of minor injuries and ailments lately. So, following my goal of transparency, I thought I would share an update on my injuries. Here goes….
- Acid Reflux / Irritated Trachea – This was the main issue that caused me to abandon my race at Chattanooga. Almost a week later, I happy to say that the symptoms are much improved. I am not completely over the trachea irritation, but I was not wheezing and coughing, during my run today. I still need to figure out the main triggers for the acid reflux, but I am pleased with the progress on this one.
- After affects of my gout flare up – The gout issues have largely subsided, but I still have a bruised joint at the base of my big toe – the metatarsal phalangeal (MTP) joint, to be exact. The joint is still sore and a little swollen. This injury is however, gradually improving. I have decided to start running again, even though it isn’t fully recovered. I can run without compromising my gait and during a run, the joint only stings a little. It isn’t super painful.
- Achilles tendonitis – The good news is that this issue is completely resolved.
So overall, my injuries are improving and I think I will be able to get back into full training in the next day or so. I should also be good to go at my race next Saturday.
