My Biggest Training Week Since June Last Year

What a week !!  Last week I completed my biggest training week, since just before racing at Ironman 70.3 Musselman in July last year.  My biggest training week in over nine months.

By the end of the week, my legs were feeling a little sore but my final workout of the week was special.  To end the week, I chose to do a ten mile run in Waterton Canyon.  It is a spectacular place to run.  A gravel road follows the North Platte river upstream and winds it’s way through some beautiful scenery.  The title photograph for this blog will give you an idea of how beautiful it is.

How can you not smile when running in a place like this !!

So what did my big training week look like.  Here it is :

Monday :   55 Minute Aerobic Trail Run (5.4 miles)

Tuesday :   1 Hour 40 Minute Ride Into The Foothills  (26 miles / 1,300 feet elevation gain)

Wednesday :  4 Hour Ride Into The Foothills  (55 miles / 4,300 feet elevation gain)

Thursday :   1 Hour Aerobic Trail Run (6.3 miles)

Friday :   1 Hour 5 Minute Aerobic Trail Run (6.6 miles)

Saturday :  3 Hour Ride Into The Foothills  (41 miles / 3,150 feet elevation gain)

Sunday :  1 Hour 35 Minute Aerobic Trail Run (10.0 miles)

Part of what made the week such a big one was all of the riding into the foothills near home.  The ride on Tuesday was supposed to be my big ride for the week, but I had to cut it short due to some mechanical issues with the front disc brake on my bike… it was rubbing and who wants to climb hills with that?

I worked on fixing the issue Tuesday afternoon and went on to do big rides on both Wednesday and Saturday.

As I write this blog a few days after my big week, my legs are again feeling tired.  I did an even bigger ride into the hills today, riding to over 9,000 feet and gaining over 5,000 feet of elevation.  I came to Colorado for the outdoor lifestyle and so far, it has been fantastic !!
