I am not getting any younger. At my age, it takes a little longer to recover from hard workouts. My joints can ache for days. I get sore muscles after very hard workouts.
I think these minor ailments are quite normal for triathletes, especially those who do a lot of volume, as part of their training plan. Sleep and general rest certainly help, but I wonder if there is more that I can do?
I am not one for taking huge quantities of supplements. Generally, I try to eat quality food, and rely on that to get me the nutrients I need. However, I have heard several people swear by the benefits of turmeric. They say it really helps aching joints and sore muscles.
So, after doing a little research, I have decided to give turmeric a try. In my research, I learned that it is a chemical in turmeric called curcumin, that provides the benefits. I also found out that the body has a hard time absorbing curcumin. This is why I chose to buy a supplement based on curcumin phytosome. This molecule is apparently absorbed 29 times more easily than pure curcumin.
I have no idea if I will notice any benefits from the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin. I am however, willing to give it a try. If I can get out of bed each morning, aching just a little less, it will be money well spent.
