When You Get To The Pool and The Pool Is Closed

My wife and I drove to our local LA Fitness this afternoon. We were both looking forward to a great swim. Having parked the car, we started walking towards the front door.  As we approached the door, I could see that there was a piece of paper taped to it.  I always dread seeing that piece of paper.  It almost always informs members that some part of the gym is not available, or that a class has been cancelled.  My heart sank, when I realized that today, the sign said “the pool is closed”.

It turns out that the ventilation system for the pool room was broken, and that the temperature in the room was 105’F.  It made sense that the pool was closed, but it was still frustrating.  The question now was… I cannot swim, so what should I do?

I came to same conclusion today, as I do almost every time that the pool is closed. Just forget the swim workout, and carry on with the training plan tomorrow, as if nothing had happened.  Missing one swim session is not a problem, and at this stage of my training block, a little extra recovery is probably a good thing.

I had already completed a run workout this morning. Tomorrow is a bike workout only.  The weather also looks to be fantastic on Friday, so I am thinking of doing my weekly long ride then.  This means, my next swim session will be on Saturday.  Hopefully, the pool will be back open by then.
