When You Forget Your Garmin …

… just do the workout anyway.

You can see that I left my Garmin watch at home for my swim workout this evening.  I have done this a few times in the past.  Previously, I have typically gone home to get it, or have arranged to meet my wife somewhere close to the pool and get it from her.  Tonight I decided not to do either of those things.

Sure, data is good and I use it with my coach to understand where I am at and what we can do to improve.  But no data for a single workout, means nothing in the scheme of things.

Your body doesn’t know if there is a watch on your wrist or not.  If you do the workout correctly, you will achieve the exact same beneficial effect, with or without the watch.  I was still gassed, doing the hard and fast intervals without the watch.  Swimming with the band round my ankles, still sucked.  The easy cool down was still easy.

So, I have finally reached the point in my journey, where it’s OK to not have the data for a workout.  It actually feels good.  I know I did a hard workout today even if the world doesn’t see it on Garmin or Strava.

Quick footnote :  My website is pretty basic right now.  I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog.  I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
