When Not Working Out Is Beyond Your Control

Yesterday, I was able to get creative, and figure out a way to get my workout done.  Today however, I was not able to get my workout done.  Sometimes, circumstances beyond your control, conspire to stop you in your tracks.

As I continue to fight my foot issues, I knew that by having a swim workout, I would have no issues working out this evening.  At least that is what I thought I knew.

After work, I packed my swim bag and made the twenty five minute drive to the local LA Fitness gym, where I do my pool swims.  Swimming is usually great on a Friday night, because I often have the pool to myself.  The gym is generally pretty quiet on a Friday evening.

As I pulled into the parking lot at the gym, I noticed that there were only about a dozen cars parked there.  I know the gym is quiet on Friday evenings, but never this quiet.  I had an uneasy feeling.  It was then that I noticed there was a piece of paper taped to the front door.

I parked my car, grabbed my bag and walked to the door.  I knew that something wasn’t right and sure enough, there it was… the sign on the front door read “Closed… Power Outage”.

I turned around,  got in my car and drove home. Not the greatest feeling, but what could I do.  When things go awry and circumstances are beyond your control, you shrug your shoulders and move on with your life.
