I have a week of unstructured training this week. This is very typical for the week after a big race. My coach lets me decide what to do on my own, with a few caveats, like not running early in the week. It is very relaxing and tonight I chose to do a training ride on the bike.
This ride was a little different however, because my wife and I decided to join the Pittsburgh Triathlon Club, on their ‘pop-up’ ride at our local park. My wife drove to the park, whereas I decided I would ride there, to get in a few more miles.
It was a beautiful evening and our small group spent the time riding around the lake. It was good to catch up with a few old friends and to meet some new triathletes. I also got to meet a newer triathlete, who I have been helping through the triathlon club’s mentoring program.
I know I train a lot on my own, but I think it is important to support your local triathlon club. The Pittsburgh Triathlon Club does a lot of fun things for our local triathletes. They have another, longer ride, coming up on Memorial Day. We are thinking of joining that one too.
It was a very different training ride for me this evening, but it was also one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
