I was scrolling through some photographs today and came across this one of Chattanooga, taken from Lookout Mountain. In late September, I was supposed to swim in that river, ride my bike south out of town for over a hundred miles and return to run a marathon in the city.
Ironman Chattanooga was cancelled many weeks ago, but I have continued to train as if it was still happening. I have however, decided that it is now time for a change. The challenge becomes, what do I focus upon?
- Continue full triathlon training to build an incredible base for next year?
- Go ‘all in’ on becoming a much better swimmer?
- Find a bike race and experience something new?
- Take up trail running and enjoy nature?
I think I have gotten to that point, where most of my friends arrived, at many weeks ago…. trying to find something to focus on, while continuing to workout. Making this decision is not as easy as it sounds. I would like to do some kind of race, but there is no guarantee that any race I aim for, will actually occur. If I focus on just getting better at triathlon, will I get bored, without a race to test myself?
I am genuinely undecided, but one thing I do know is that I will be continuing to work out, pretty much every day. I have had a rest day today and while it is good to rest my body, I am anxious to workout again tomorrow.
