Today’s photograph show some beautiful woods. We all know the saying about what bears do in the woods. Well today, during my easy run, I was a bear.  Yes, I had major GI issues!!!

It is estimated that about 90% of runners have experienced GI issues during a run, at one time or another. After my experience this afternoon, I did a little research on possibles causes.  The following are generally regarded as factors in GI distress for runners.

  • Eating foods that are high in fiber or fat
  • Eating food to close the time you exercise
  • Dehydration
  • Too much caffeine
  • High carbohydrate sports drinks
  • Stress
  • Vibration… kind of unavoidable when running!!

In thinking about my own situation, I believe my problems stemmed from being slightly dehydrated and from the fact that ate a snack just before leaving for my run.  I made some rookie mistakes and I paid the price towards the end of my run today.
