It’s time to go public with my ‘challenge’….
On Sunday, I will attempt to run the entire length of the Rachel Carson Trail. I will be running East to West, starting at first light around 7.30am.
This is a 45.4 Mile hiking trail, just north of Pittsburgh. Over the course of those miles, I will climb over 8,000 feet and descend over 8,000 feet. Having run the trail during training, I know that I will gain very little benefit on the descents. Most are quite steep, with some being as steep as 45% grade!!
This challenge goes well beyond anything I have done before in my running career.
- I have never run further than 26.2 miles in a single session (race)
- I have never run for longer than 6 hours in one session
- My longest trail run ever lasted for just under four hours
I really feel like I am going into the unknown and I cannot wait. I am confident I can do it, but it is so much more than I have ever done before, that have no idea if I will succeed or not on. Either way however, I know it’s going to be fun trying.
