Now that my ultramarathon is behind me, my next race will be SwimRun NC. I really enjoyed this race last year, and know that I will likely do more swimrun races in the future. For this reason, I went ahead and invested in an Ark Keel buoy.
If you don’t know about swimrun races, then take a look at my race report from SwimRun NC last year. You will soon realize that having a good swim buoy is important, because you swim with your run shoes on. The Ark Keel buoy was designed with swimrun races in mind. It is super buoyant to provide maximum lift to your back half while swimming. It is also much larger than a regular swim buoy, so it it has a unique shape in order to make the large buoy comfortable to wear.
The first thing I am going to do to the buoy is to punch a hole into it. This is so I can attach a lasso mount, made of shock cord. The lasso mount allows the buoy to be ‘stored’ behind your back, while you do the run sections of the swimrun race.
Swimrun training begins this week, so I look forward to trying out my Ark Keel buoy up at the lake, later this week. The good news is I also bought one for my wife. She will be my partner at SwimRun NC this year, so of course she needed to have one too!!
