I woke up this morning, and immediately realized that my knee felt quite good. After testing it out on a short run yesterday, I was concerned my knee would feel sore again, after sleeping on it overnight. Having gotten out of bed and walked around for a while, I was pleased to find that my knee actually felt the best it has, since I got hurt. Step one on the road to doing my challenge this weekend was complete.
After talking things over with my coach, we decided my next move should be a 45 minute run outside. I did that run this evening at the local park. I started the run very slowly, and gradually increased my speed up to a comfortable zone 2 pace, as I warmed up. Knee pain was low at the start and it didn’t get any worse. My legs however, felt tired and dead.
This is why, during a taper period, you don’t just stop working out and rest. You need to keep your legs and the rest of your body, tuned up. My legs felt bad, because I haven’t run on them at all in ten days, aside from the very short treadmill run last night. Even though they felt bad, I am not concerned. I just need to workout a couple more times before the weekend, and I am sure my muscles will ‘wake up’ and feel fine.
So, with this run under my belt, the decision is made. I will attempt the challenge I have set for myself on Sunday. I will be attempting something, far beyond what I have done before. Stay tuned for details as the big day approaches.
