I made the decision to not workout this morning. We were going to spend the day in Rocky Mountain National Park, so I was sure that I would get in enough exercise anyway. My assumption was correct, as my wife and I did two different hikes while there.
We started our day by driving up to Bear Lake, where we were lucky enough to secure a parking spot. This was a bit of a bonus, because this is usually a tough place to get in. This area is at close to 10,000 feet in elevation, and there was snow on the ground when we arrived.
Our first hike was to Alberta Falls. There was snow and ice on the path the whole way to the falls. This meant I was working my leg muscles hard, just trying to stay upright. It is surprising how just hiking, can turn into a good workout. The falls were mostly frozen and beautiful to look at.
After heading back to our car and eating the lunch we packed, we went on our second hike of the day. A hike to Bierstadt Lake. This hike was at a slightly lower elevation, so there wasn’t as much snow. In fact, in areas that were getting sunshine, there was no snow at all. The hike to the lake however, was all uphill. This meant my legs got a different, but equally valuable, kind of workout.
So just like when we visited Rocky Mountain National Park a few days ago, I got in some good exercise and at the same time enjoyed amazing scenery.
