Trying To Learn From My Bad Run

As described in yesterday’s blog, my trail run this weekend did not go well. I was just tired for the whole run.

Whenever I have a sub-par workout, I typically spend the next day trying to figure out why.  There is no doubt that my legs are tired, from the major run block I am in, but I think there was more to yesterday than just that.

In thinking about it all day today, I am sure that inadequate fueling, was also a factor in me feeling tired.  I was on my legs for about the same time as an open marathon yesterday, but I certainly didn’t eat during the week leading up to my run, with that in mind.  I typically load up on hydration and carbohydrates before open marathons.  I didn’t do that last week.

It was also hot yesterday and I struggled to eat my nutrition on the run.  I also remember being thirsty on several occasions.  I never did eat my gels or waffle during the run.

I will never know if dehydration or lack of fueling, made me feel tired yesterday.  I do know however, that as my run distance increases, I need to make sure I am eating enough ahead of time.   I have another long run next weekend, so it’s going to be pancakes for breakfast tomorrow.  Going to get the week off to a good start!
