Day 2 at the C26 Triathlon camp, also involved a swim session, a bike ride and a run.
The swim today was in the really nice pool at Boost Fitness. We were there early, and had the pool to ourselves. The camp participants were split into small groups that put people with similar swim speeds together. Each group was then assigned a series of swim intervals, depending on ability.
The groups I was in, started with a warm up and then did ‘all out’ 25’s, on equal rest for 20 minutes. This was followed by 10 x 100’s at a steady pace, and then 4 x 200’s with paddles. We ended with ‘hypoxic’ 100’s. This is where you swim 100m, while taking as few breaths as possible; it is good for forcing you to relax in the water and focus on your stroke technique.
After swimming, we all grabbed breakfast ‘to go’ and headed over to the Natchez Trace. The Natchez Trace is quite possibly, the best road in America to ride a bike. Super smooth surface, no stop signs or stop lights and cyclists have priority (cars MUST pass in the other lane).
We spent two hours riding hills, in an out and back workout, before returning to our cars and changing into run gear for an easy pace, 30 minute run. These workouts were done at relatively low intensity, because we will be back at the Trace tomorrow morning, for a longer, tougher bike workout.
My legs are a little tired this evening, but not too bad. I suspect that after tomorrow, they will be much more tired….
