I had a lot of things that I wanted to fit into today. I wanted to spend most of the day, doing something that I don’t normally do… watch TV.
Mostly I wanted to watch the PTO Championship races from Daytona. The PTO (Professional Triathletes Organization) had assembled an amazing line up of athletes for these triathlon races. The women’s race started at 10.00am, and the men’s race started at 2.00pm. This meant, that if I wanted to watch the whole race in both events, I would be watching TV for almost eight hours. I also wanted to fit in watching the Formula 1 race too.
Workout wise, I had a long run scheduled. I just couldn’t figure out an attractive way to get it done. I could have run before the PTO races, but the weather outside was really cold and I definitely didn’t want to do my long run on the treadmill.
Then, I remembered an instruction from my coach. All of his athletes were mandated to take six days off from triathlon workouts, in the month of December. When I first heard this, I thought to myself that following through on this mandate, would be tough. I really like to workout. I really wanted to workout today, but I wanted to watch those races, even more. Given the huge lack of racing this year, the decision was made. I would take a day off from training.
My day off turned out great. I had a totally relaxing day, apart from getting a little too engaged in the Formula 1 race (George was robbed of a fairytale day … go look it up!). I still have five more days to take off this month. I am not sure how easy it will be for me to do that, but today it all worked out perfectly.
