We all have them. Days when our motivation for working out it low. Today was one of those days for me. I was surprised, because I have been highly motivated recently. On days like today, it is often a case of ‘just get it done’.
I think it might have been the weather that sent me into a funk. It was our first, really cold day of the winter. The skies were gray and it was predicted to start snowing late afternoon. On top of the weather, I was late getting out of bed and was just generally lazy all morning. I was longing for a summer’s day, like the one in the photo.
Over lunch and early afternoon, when my wife and I went out to do a few chores, I still hadn’t gotten my bike workout done. Late afternoon rolled around and it was close to a ‘now or never’ moment.
My wife had a run workout and she got dressed to do it in the cold outside. That was the key. I thought that if she could be motivated enough to do her workout outside, then I could do mine in the basement. It was time to suck it up and ‘just get it done’.
The workout was a tough one, which might also have been factor in my procrastination. I did however, get it done and that was a very satisfying feeling.
If you are faced with a day like the one I had today, try to find one thing, that will get you to start your workout. Once you start, it will generally get done. Today, I was lucky to have my wife brave the cold and that triggered me into action.
