Time To Try And Get Back In The Saddle

It has been a few days since my bike crash last week, and last night, I decided it was time to try and get back in the saddle.  As a precaution, I rode my bike on the trainer, and it went quite well.

Immediately after my crash, I was feeling quite good. I thought that all I had were a few minor bumps and grazes. What I had no appreciation for, was how much the rest of my body had been impacted by falling from my bike.

I know from very carefully examining my bike helmet, that my head had not contacted the ground during the crash. I’m sure a lot of that had to do with the fact that I was going very slow when it happened. I also think it had to do a lot with the rest of my body protecting my head.  The next day, my neck muscles were very sore. Clearly, I had tensed up to stop my head hitting the ground.

The other part of me with lingering soreness is my ribs. They are bruised on my right side, where I think I landed on my arm, which the ribcage then hit. Regardless, this is the one area, that I am still ‘feeling’ right now.

Having gotten back in the saddle, the ride went well last night. I was originally planning just an easy ride, but ended up doing four intervals of high power.  I felt good doing this. Riding on the trainer definitely helped.

I think I will try an easy paced run tomorrow. Hopefully that goes as well as the ride did last night.
