Time To Get Motivated

Throat is still sore; chest still a little congested and foot, while a lot better, is still not perfect.  No long run for me today.

When I don’t work out for a few days in a row, I start to get a little antsy.  Triathlon to me is a lifestyle.  It’s a lifestyle that involves working out, pretty much every day; often multiple times a day.  So here I am, stuck at home and not working out for the second day in a row.

To try and stay positive, I decided to start reading a book that I just got… Racing Weight – How To Get Lean For Peak Performance by Matt Fitzgerald.  I am already two chapters in and am getting fired up about getting lean.

If I am honest with myself, I have never been perfectly lean for a race. Don’t get me wrong, I have been in great shape for my races and certainly at a good body weight.  Reading this book however, makes me realize that there is much more to ‘racing weight’ than just weight.

It’s body composition that really matters.. you need to be lean.  Getting lean is something I struggle with.  As I have mentioned in previous blog posts, I think my nutrition and diet is sub-standard, to achieve peak performance.

I’m off to put up my feet, get healthy and read some more of the book.  I’ll give a full book review, when I’m done reading the whole thing.

Quick footnote :  My website is pretty basic right now.  I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog.  I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
