I swam 2,500 yards this afternoon to complete my biggest week ever in the pool. The 13,000 yards that I swam this week is pretty small compared to many swimmers, but it is a big total for me.
As I continue to focus on swimming, I plan to increase my yardage even more. I am placing a bet that if I swim a lot more than normal, then my swimming will improve. I lose time during the swim during my races, and I am looking to minimize those losses in this upcoming season.
At the end of the week, I feel like the extra time in the pool is helping. I am not swimming a lot faster, but I am much more aware of my body position in the water. I can definitely feel when I am making changes in my stroke or when my form starts to fall away.
Given all the extra time in the pool, I was concerned that I would go sour on all the extra swimming. The opposite is actually happening. The more I swim, the more I want to swim. I didn’t ever think I would feel like that.
I don’t think that this will be last time, that I will say… “that was my biggest ever week in the pool”. Any guesses as to what my total will be next week?
