The dishwasher trick worked!!!  My favorite hat now smells nice and fresh.

Earlier today, with a little bit of trepidation, I put my favorite running hat into the top rack of our dishwasher, added a non-bleach dishwasher tablet, and turned the washer on.  I chose the shortest wash cycle I could, and turned off the heated dry option. Then I waited.

An hour later, I opened the door and saw that my hat looked OK.  It was hot and wet, so I took it outside to dry off.  After work, I went to check it out.  It is in great shape and it has none of the funky smell, that it had yesterday.  I am so happy.

Of course, I will be doing my four hour trail run in this hat tomorrow, and looking at the weather forecast, I am going to sweat a lot.  Hopefully, I don’t immediately get that funky smell back.

Tomorrow is going to be a great day.  I’ll be running trails and although I won’t be close to a marathon in terms of distance,  I will be close, in terms of time on my feet.  It’s going to be an interesting experience.  Will I feel like I have run a marathon or not?  I have no idea, but I will know tomorrow night.
