With a two and half hour ride on my schedule, I really wanted to go outside today. After some morning rain, the sun came out, the roads dried up and so outside I went. I should have thought more about the temperature, because it turned out to be a cold ride.
The temperatures were in the mid-fifties and when standing in the sun, out of the wind, it was very pleasant. It felt good as I took the above photograph. Of course, when you are on your bike, there is a significantly wind chill effect, and that caught up with me today.
It didn’t help that my workout was an easy endurance ride. I didn’t have any hard intervals to work up a sweat. To compensate a little for this, I focused on finding hills to climb. Going up hills made me work a little harder, and the slower speed, chilled me a little less. The biggest climb of the day, was the ride home from the park. By the time I got home, I was almost fully warmed up, except for my feet. My feet were really cold; they were almost numb.
My next ride is on Saturday. You can be sure I’ll be checking the weather, so I don’t get fooled again and have another cold ride. Right now it’s looks like I’ll be on the trainer…..
