Let’s be honest. If you want to run fast these days, you need to be running in one of the new generation carbon plate shoes. I have been using the Asics Metaspeed Edge, but my feet have been really sore after using them. For this reason, I ordered a pair of Saucony’s Endorphin Pro 3 shoes to try.
I spent a good few days last week, reading reviews of the various carbon plate run shoes recommended for longer races. I am an over-pronator, so I really need some stability in my run shoes. Carbon plate shoes with the new generation foams, are notorious for being not stable. This means I have a challenge finding a good shoe for me.
All the reviews I read, suggested that the Endorphin Pro 3 shoe, was amongst the most stable of the carbon plate shoes . The reviews also suggested that the fit was similar to the Asics Metaspeed Edge. It was therefore a no brainer for me to order a pair of the Saucony’s to try out.
The shoes arrived today, and I was really excited to try them on. Putting on the shoes, I was pleased with how they fit. They felt very comfortable. Then I took a walk in them. The shoes immediately didn’t feel ‘right’. I could feel my ankle collapsing outward, when the shoe hit the ground.
I thought that maybe this feeling would go away, when running in the shoes at race pace. The shoes are designed to run in, after all. I tried running in the shoes on my treadmill. Again, I could feel my ankle and knee moving outward as soon as I landed on the shoe. Could I run in them? Yes, but I was very fearful of getting injured while doing so. For this reason, I will be returning the shoes tomorrow. I’ll exchange them for another pair of the Asics Metaspeed Edge.
The Asics shoes might be hard on my feet, but I do know that I can run in them and not get injured. I will have to live with that.
Are any of you over-pronators? Do you run in carbon plate shoes, and if so, which ones?
