About three weeks ago, I wrote about my decision to try and become a certified triathlon coach. I wrote about my desire to help others achieve their dreams and goals, and how I hope that being a coach, can help achieve this.
Today, I got the great news, that I was accepted to participate in USA Triathlon’s, Level 1 Certification Coaching Clinic in Charlotte, NC in August. I am unbelievably excited about this.
USA Triathlon is changing the way they run the clinics this year. The event, which spans two days, is going to be very ‘hands on’, and not just classroom based. Participants will actually swim, bike and run and we will role play being either a ‘coach’ or an ‘athlete’. It sounds like I might get some tips about my own skills as an athlete, as well as learning about what it takes to be a coach.
It’s going to be a great weekend. I am sure I will get to meet some really knowledgeable people and will also be able to start building a network of contacts in the coaching world.
The fact that the clinic is in Charlotte, NC, is also good news. My plan is to combine this trip, with a visit to Hanging Rock State Park. That State Park in North Carolina, is home to SwimRun NC; the race that I have on my calendar for October this year. I am planning to go scout the course a little bit, and will hopefully be joined by my team mate. We are planning to do the final swim section of the race in the Dan River. We need to get some practice, swimming as a team.
Like I said above, I am really excited about this weekend. It will be tiring, but I will learn so much.
