My road back to full recovery from Ironman Chattanooga continues. I am slowly improving, and even though I am making progress, I am still doing things to help me get back to normal.
This evening, I took an Epsom Salt bath. Epsom Salts have been used for hundreds of years to relieve all kinds of ailments, including sore muscles from working out. A hot bath, with Epsom Salts dissolved in the water, certainly feels good, but does it actually help.
Epsom Salts are magnesium sulphate and some people claim that the magnesium is absorbed through the skin and this provides relief. The truth is that there are no scientific studies that have ever proved, Epsom Salts actually work.
I am not sure the salts did anything for me tonight, but relaxing in a warm bath certainly felt good. Afterwards my muscles were very relaxed and my joints didn’t feel quite so stiff.
I took the bath this evening, because I had spent all day painting the outside of our house. This involved a lot of climbing up and down ladders. So, even though there isn’t a workout showing up in my Training Peaks today, I do know that I did work out my legs quite a bit.
Hopefully, another night’s sleep, will get me fully back to normal. I am looking forward to running again. As a precaution against injury, I won’t actually try running until the middle of next week. In the meantime, I will stick to cycling and swimming. I am keen to continue working out. I don’t want to lose all the fitness I gained, while training for Ironman.
