I have been having leg issues for several weeks now. My quads in particular, just don’t feel normal. During any kind of effort in a workout, my quads feel tight and fatigued.
Pushing power on the bike is different right now. I know what it should feel like to push certain watts, and I struggle to do what was relatively easy a few weeks back. On my runs, as soon as I run up a hill, the quads start complaining.
I started a gentle massage on my quads this evening and they felt very ‘hard’. I found a few knots and this got me thinking, that maybe this is part of the issue. As a result, I decided to try an experiment.
I chose to give the quads on my right leg a very aggressive and deep massage. I used a combination of my percussion massage gun, and good old-fashioned hand massage. I really went to town and my right side quads are feeling quite sore now.
I left my left leg completely alone. I am now going to see if I feel any difference between the two legs in the next day or so. The right leg is the experiment, and the left leg is my control.
These leg issues are having an effect on me mentally too. I can’t find the mental strength to really dig deep during hard efforts. I am hoping that this massage session starts to move me in the right direction, so I can get my head in the right place too.
