Staying Patient With My Running

I continue to be super conservative, as I come back from my knee injury.  The past few days have seen a major improvement with my knee. I am running pain free, and it is very tempting to get back to my normal running plan.  I am choosing however, to remain patient and ease back into things.

This meant that I had yet another run on the treadmill today.  The weather is perfect for running right now, so it is tough to not just put on my run shoes, and head outside.  Instead, I have decided that a week on the treadmill, will mean that I can be healthy for the future.

My favorite season for running is fall.  The temperatures are perfect and the scenery becomes beautiful, as the trees start to change color.  I don’t want to miss the best time of year, due to an ongoing injury.

My 60 minute, easy run, went well.  It was really good, because it allowed me to unwind from a stressful day at work.  I have just been put onto a very demanding new project, that has lots of short-term deadlines. As an athlete it is important to remember that ‘stress is stress’.  Your body doesn’t know if the stress is coming from your day at work or from a demanding workout.  The fact that today’s workout was an easy pace day helped a lot; it was stress relieving, not stress inducing.

I think I will do one more day of running on the treadmill, and then head outside at the weekend.  Things are coming back around, and I’m ready to take on my next challenge.
