I believe the number one success factor for an endurance athlete, is consistency. Consistently working out, day after day, month after month and year after year, yields fantastic results. To be consistent sometimes requires just finding a way to get your workout done. Today was one of those days for me. Somehow, I was able to squeeze in the two workouts I had planned to do.
I really didn’t feel like working out at all. I was busy all day organizing Holiday gifts and continuing to paint our bedroom. It was late afternoon and my legs felt tired. I felt tired in general. Luckily, my wife also had a run to get done today, so we were able to motivate each other to get out the door. We both ran at our local High School. This was a good choice, because the terrain is relatively flat and I had an easy effort run on my schedule.
After running, I still felt a little tired, but was in a better mood for my one hour bike ride. I chose to have an early dinner and then go to the basement to ride. My bike ride was also an easier effort ride, so it was not a problem to ride quite soon after eating. I managed to spin my way through the session without too much difficulty, and was really happy when it was done.
I went from not wanting to do even one workout, to successfully completing two workouts in the space of a couple of hours. Those ‘Green’ workouts in TrainingPeaks look good, especially considering the day I had today.
