It’s not very often, that I take time to relax on weekends. There always seems to be so much that needs to get done.
During my training for long course triathlons, I typically spend several hours training on each day of a weekend. Then there are regular chores to be done, like cutting the grass or paying the bills. Add in other things like maintenance work on the the house and before you know it, the weekend is over.
This long weekend however, we are visiting with our daughter in Michigan. This means that, apart from helping her put together a few pieces of furniture, I have no chores to do. This, together with the fact that I only had a 35 minute run today, means I can actually sit down and relax.
So what does relaxing mean for me. Today it meant sitting down and watching the Tour de France and Formula 1 Qualifying. It seemed like such a luxury to be able to just sit down and enjoy these events. I don’t know why, but I felt almost guilty.
I shouldn’t feel guilty, because it is healthy to take some time out for yourself occasionally. I need to get over myself and do it more often.
By the way, that friendly face in the photo is Maisy, my daughter’s cat.
