A week or so ago, I wrote about my desire to get leaner and about the book Racing Weight by Matt Fitzgerald.
I have read most of the book and it’s very good. The suggested approach to becoming lean, is easy to understand and implementing it, doesn’t appear to be overly complicated. Today, I am starting to make one change, based on the book’s recommendations.
I am going to be taking a daily Omega-3 fatty acid supplement. The book talks about preliminary research, that suggests Omega-3 fatty acids may enhance the fat burning effect of exercise and may increase the elasticity of blood vessels, which promotes blood flow. Those sound like great benefits.
I am pretty sure my current diet isn’t giving me the amount of Omega-3’s recommended by Matt, so this is why I choosing to take a supplement.
You’ll notice that the particular supplement I have bought also contains Vitamin D3. I am already taking D3, so I thought why not take them together (it actually works out slightly cheaper this way). I chose the brand Nordic Naturals based on a recommendation from my son, who take this supplement. He says that he doesn’t suffer ‘fishy’ tastes from this particular brand and as a bonus, they are NSF certified for sport (certified against contamination by banned substances).
I have no idea if I will be able to tell a difference from taking this supplement, but it’s a common supplement with endurance athletes. I figured it definitely will not hurt to try it …. just hoping I don’t suffer from fishy tasting burps!
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
