Looking at today’s photo, you might think it was a gray and dreary day in Pittsburgh. It was overcast, which is very common in Western Pennsylvania, but outside of that, it was a perfect day for my run.
What weather conditions are best for running? For me, I find that days without any wind, and where the temperature is around 50’F, are perfect for a run. Today was that kind of day.
I ran for an hour and twenty minutes at my local park today. I ran in shorts, a short sleeved shirt and I wore my favorite trucker cap. On my run, I was never too hot and never too cold. I ran at a controlled pace, which turned out to be quite quick for the effort level that I was pushing. It was a great run.
During my run, I saw a lot of other runners. Very few were dressed like I was. Most were dressed as if it was much colder, but I could see they were sweating quite hard. This told me that were over-dressed.
Choosing what to wear for a run can be a bit of a challenge. I always tend to err on the side of being slightly under-dressed. I find that even if I am cold at the start of the run, a few miles in, I feel fine. The only exception is my hands. My hands always get cold, so I often wear gloves and today I did just that. I felt that I got my clothing perfect for my run today.
As we head into winter running, choosing the correct clothing is important. Today, I got it exactly right and had a fantastic run.
