Injuries, even minor ones, are the worst! I’m unable to workout today, because of an issue I am having with my right leg.
On Wednesday, I had a really hard bike session and I didn’t hold back. I tried to follow the old adage of … “make your hard workouts hard, and your easy workouts easy”. The thing is, I may have gone too hard.
Ever since that Wednesday workout, I have had some pain deep in my quads, on my right leg. It wasn’t too bad on Thursday, but on Friday the whole area had some slight swelling. Overnight, that swelling got a little worse and the pain woke me up at 2:30am.
Today I made the decision to shut down any workouts until this issue is resolved. I have been using a cold compress to ice down the area, which is helping. I’m also trying to rest and elevate the leg. Basically I’m following the standard RICE treatment – rest, ice, compress, elevate.
As with most triathletes, I really don’t like missing workouts. The key however is to get healthy before pushing hard again. Depending on how it goes in the next day or two, I might try just swimming only, for a while. At least with swimming, I can somewhat immobilize my legs by using a pull buoy. Time will tell and I have plenty of it right now.
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
