Searching My Cookbooks For Healthy Snack Ideas

I have been tracking my food macros for a few days and have come to realize that I need to make some changes. This had me busy this afternoon, searching endurance nutrition cookbooks for healthy snack ideas.

In tracking my macros, I found that I am generally falling a little short on carbohydrates, and that I often exceed the amount of fat that I should be consuming.  Looking at the data in detail, I came to realize that almost all of that extra fat comes from snacks that I eat between meals.  When I get hungry, I just reach for things that are tasty like cookies or chips.

I know cookies and chips are poor choices, but I eat them because of convenience.  They are just sitting there in the pantry waiting for me to grab them. I need to make sure that I have the option of a healthy snack, next time I get the urge to eat between meals.  This requires me to do some food prepping, and hence the cookbooks.

It is surprising how many tasty snack options these books contain.  I am clearly not alone, when it comes to the need for healthy convenience food.  One popular option is smoothies.  I have never gotten into smoothies and I don’t understand why.  Maybe it’s because you need to think ahead and have the ingredients on hand, for when the urge for a smoothie arises.  I am going to buy a few things to try, next time I visit the grocery store.

I do know the first recipe that I will try from these books.  It is a recipe for date, cranberry chia bars.  They sound delicious and look easy to make.  I am hoping that if I have one of these around, I should be able to make better choices between meals.
