When life throws you a curve ball, it’s OK to adjust. Today’s curveball was the weather. It might be the second week of May, but that doesn’t mean it can’t snow in Pittsburgh. I know because today it snowed.
I was hoping to ride my bike outdoors this weekend and I had a 90 minutes easy bike session, scheduled for today. As soon as I saw the snow, I knew my plans had to change. The change was simple; today I would do the run that was originally scheduled for tomorrow and then tomorrow, I will ride my bike. The weather forecast for tomorrow is much better, but if it’s bad, I can still do the ride inside.
Many triathletes get concerned about altering their schedule. It’s really not a problem, as long as the changes are not big ones. Switching around one day for another, is typically fine. The thing to avoid is rearranging lots of workouts and stacking multiple hard workouts back to back.
I got my run workout done late afternoon. The snow had disappeared and the temperature wasn’t too bad. I ran at the local park, which proved to be a good choice, because the weather kept the crowds away. I only saw about a dozen people during my 50 minute run.
Tomorrow I will ride my bike. Let’s hope the weather cooperates, and then I can look back on a very successful, and much needed, schedule change.
