Running Shoes

Ran in different shoes today.

I do most of my training runs in Asics Gel Kayano running shoes.  These are a stability shoe, which I need because I over pronate.  I have been running in this shoe for the past five years.  It’s really well cushioned, so it’s good for long distance running.

Over the years, I have tried pretty much every other brand of shoe, but have always had at least one pair of Asics Kayano at any given time.  The Kayano is quite a heavy shoe however, so I use a different shoe for races.  For races I use the Asics DS Trainer and that is the shoe that I ran in today.

Running shoes have become quite controversial lately with the Nike Vaporfly shoes allowing people to run faster than ever.  I am convinced they offer an advantage, and I was close to buying a pair, to see how they worked for me.

I was holding off buying the Nike shoes, hoping that  Asics would release their version of a carbon plate ‘super-shoe’.  I just like the feel of Asics shoes and wanted to wait.

It was well publicized that Asics would release their new shoe, in preparation for the Olympics this year. Given that Asics is a major sponsor of the Tokyo Olympic Games, I was convinced the rumours would be true. Well the wait is over … almost.

Asics have finally officially announced the Metaracer, as their first carbon plate shoe. Unfortunately, they are not available until the end of June.

I have signed up for a notification from Asics, so I will know exactly when they are available.  I can’t wait to try them out. The interesting this is, how will I really know if they are faster?
