After two weeks of running on the treadmill, to avoid the risk of a relapse with my injuries, I decided that today I would run outside. It was a good decision.
To try and minimize the stress, I chose about the flattest route I could. This is a route that involves running around the perimeter of the local High School campus. I use this route quite a lot, because it is fairly flat, and because the run around the perimeter is exactly one mile long.
The weather was reasonable, so I didn’t have to wear anything heavy and I wore the new Asics Gel Kayano shoes that I bought at the end of last year, before I got hurt. My run was a 25 minute easy pace run.
The run went great. I had some very minor pain in my knee for a few hundred yards, but after that nothing. The foot, where I had my stress fracture, was just fine. It was a great run overall. It was really nice to have that feeling of cold air in my lungs and to be off the treadmill.
Now that I can run outside again, I just have to stay patient. I need to build up my run strength slowly. I am so happy with the way things are going right now, I must work hard not to ruin it.
Quick footnote : My website is pretty basic right now. I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog. I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
