Riding The Roadie On The Trainer

As I mentioned yesterday, I have put my old road bike onto my trainer, so I can continue working out, while I upgrade my TT bike. Tonight I had my first ride on this new set up … and it was really tough!

Tonight’s workout was a series of one minute, high cadence, hard effort intervals.  This kind of workout is usually tough for me, as I am better at generating aerobic, endurance power.  These one minute, high cadence intervals are more like prolonged, anaerobic sprints.

My quads got destroyed tonight, but I think a good piece of that was the change in bike position.  I have never had a bike fit on this road bike, so I am pretty sure my set up is not ideal.  I think I will adjust the saddle position slightly for the next ride, to see if that helps even out muscle engagement.  I need to use my hamstrings a little more.

I have an easy recovery ride scheduled for tomorrow morning … hopefully that one will not be as painful!

Quick footnote :  My website is pretty basic right now.  I chose to start sharing first, rather than spending time making the website complete before launching the blog.  I’m looking forward to building the website over time into a useful resource for you .. just another part of my ‘life’ that you will get to read about.
