Racing And Workouts Have Made My Legs Quite Sore

My legs are quite sore this evening. Given what I have put them through these past two days however, I am not surprised. I have been very busy.

First thing yesterday morning, I did the Run Santa Run 5K race.  As expected, the race proved to be quite challenging, given my lack of run training recently.  I felt quite good until I got into the last mile. That is when my legs started to feel fatigued.  Normally, it is my lungs that limit my speed in a 5K, but this weekend, it was definitely my legs.

I ended up running a 24:04, which was good enough for 2nd in my age group.  It was however, almost two minutes slower than the time I ran, at the same race last year.  I am not in great run shape, but that is OK at this time of year.

In addition to the race yesterday, I also did a very hard, 90 minute workout on the bike trainer.  I also did an even harder effort ride today, although this workout was only an hour long.

Finally, if all that exercise isn’t enough, my wife and I have been painting our bedroom.  The room has a very high ceiling, so guess what… I have also spent hours going up and down ladders these past two days.

All in all then, I am not surprised that my legs are quite sore.  I expect them to remain that way for the rest of this week.  I have more painting to do and lots of workouts ahead.  Fortunately, next week is scheduled to be a recovery week.  I am going to need it!
