I am due to race an olympic triathlon tomorrow morning. Right now, I am feeling good and hoping that we do get to race. The weather is forecast to be wet and stormy, so who knows what tomorrow will bring.
Triathletes tend to worry a lot about weather. When you think about it however, worrying achieves nothing. We cannot control the weather. What we can control however, is the way we react to the weather.
I have therefore spent a little time this evening, going through some ‘what if’ scenarios and determining a plan in case those scenarios arise.
- What if the wet and stormy weather, delays the start of the race by several hours?
- What if road conditions are treacherous and I am forced to ride slowly?
- What if the lake is extremely choppy from high winds?
- Where will high winds effect me the most on the bike course?
- What if my helmet visor fogs up?
These are just some of the things that could happen tomorrow. By thinking about them and having a plan for each, I won’t be surprised on race day.
