I am writing this late on a Friday evening, just ahead of my biggest training weekend ever. Today was a relatively easy day (just a one hour swim at the lake), so I could be prepared for the upcoming weekend.
Tomorrow I have a bike ride that will likely be over a one hundred miles and I will do a short run off the bike, immediately after. On Sunday, I have a two and half hour, long run on the schedule.
This will be by far my biggest ever training weekend, in terms of volume. Rather that dreading it, I am really excited to see how it goes. I think I have enough fitness to do well, even though I am at the end of a big training block.
The other reason I am looking forward to the weekend, is that I feel I have prepared well in terms of nutrition. To manage such a large volume of training, it is important to fuel your body ahead of time. Last night, I ate a very large portion of lasagna (home made by my wife … the best). Tonight, I had home made pizza, to top off a day of solid eating.
If my weekend goes badly, it will not be because I am under nourished. While the food I have been eating might not have been super ‘healthy’, I do know it was calorie dense and calories are what I am going to need.
I’ll hopefully be feeling just as good tomorrow night as I do now. I have fully prepared for my big weekend and am ready to go.
