Oppressive Heat Had Me Dying And Not Flying On My Run

As soon as I started running this morning, I could feel the oppressive heat and humidity.  The air was so heavy.  Views in the distance looked almost foggy, there was that much moisture in the air.

I was in Washington, DC, and ran near the Ronald Reagan Washington National airport.  There were aircraft taking off regularly.  The people on those planes were literally flying, while I was ‘dying’ do a workout.

The challenge for me was, that it was not just a straightforward easy run today. My run included three times, two minutes at threshold pace, with only a minute rest interval. During those threshold intervals, I found it very difficult to breath. It felt like I was breathing through a straw.

Just after finishing the last interval, I was so winded, that I just stopped and stood in the shade of a nearby tree.  That is when I took today’s photograph.  Waiting for a plane to take off, gave me an excuse to rest a little longer than I planned…

Luckily, living in Pittsburgh, it is very rare for me to experience the oppressive heat and humidity, that I experienced today.  I am so happy that I’ll be back home tomorrow.
