Only A Run Could Help

When faced with the choice of what workout to do after work this evening, I could only face doing a run.

Work has been quite stressful recently and today was not a good day.  When five o’clock rolled around, I really didn’t feel like doing a workout.  Even though I didn’t feel like doing a workout, I knew that I needed to do one.  I needed to de-stress.

A bike ride would de-stress me, but it was getting dark and a ride on the trainer wouldn’t do the trick.  I want to get back into swimming at the pool, but that felt like a chore when I thought about it.  Running is my usual happy place, but even that didn’t seem that appealing this evening.  I knew however, that if I put on my running shoes and went outside to run, things would be alright.

It’s that time a year when I not only need my run gear on to run at night but also my headlight.  Luckily it was fully charged, so I put it on and went out to run.  By the way, I love my headlight because it is also a flashing tail light – great for enabling people and car approaching from behind to see me early.

So how did the run go?  It went great.  I ran two miles further than I originally planned, and came back to the house way more relaxed than when I had left.  I had trusted my experience and my heart…. I knew that this evening, only a run could help.
