I didn’t swim, bike or run today, but I still got in a lot of good exercise. Off season workouts can be very flexible. The key is to do something that helps maintain fitness.
I spent today high in the Rocky Mountains. We did two separate hikes. The first hike was at very high elevation. We climbed about 700 feet in just over an hour and topped out at an elevation of over 12,000 feet. There was light snow on the ground and the views were spectacular. Our second hike of the day was over three miles and also included an elevation gain of about 650 feet. The views were very different but also beautiful.
Having arrived in Colorado yesterday, these hikes were challenging. The altitude was definitely impacting my breathing, and the climbing / descending worked my legs hard. As I finished the second hike, I felt like I had done a couple of really good workouts.
The reality was, that I had indeed worked hard today, and I was reminded that off season workouts don’t have to include a swim, bike or run.
