It has been on order for several weeks and I was finally able to pick it up from the store; my new Trek Emonda SL7 Disc eTap. There really is nothing like a “New Bike Day”.
Ever since I started in triathlon, I have only owned one bike. I initially rode our son’s aluminum road bike, before investing in my Cervelo P2 just over six years ago. I still love my Cervelo TT bike, but I have longed to add a road bike to my stable. Why a road bike? So I can be a little more comfortable, when I ride a lot of miles during my base training periods.
I spent a lot of time looking at lots of different bikes and eventually settled on the Trek Emonda. I wanted a fast bike, but went for more of a climbing bike, rather than a true aero bike, because I ride a lot of hills. Western Pennsylvania isn’t very flat and should we ever relocate to Colorado, which is in our longer term plans, the Emonda is made for the mountains.
This bike is my first bike with disc brakes and electronic (wireless) shifting. I am excited to learn what these technology advancements will bring. I can’t wait to take the bike out for long ride tomorrow.
A ‘New Bike Day’ is a rare thing for me. Hopefully it will not be another six years before my next one, but it will be a while. These modern bikes are not cheap!!
