My last race of the season, SwimRun NC, is only a month away. Late yesterday, I received our bib number from the race organizer.
I’m really looking forward to this race. My partner and I, have only two goals for the race. Have fun and finish… in that order. It will the first SwimRun race for both of us, and we have no expectations of ‘competing’. We just want to experience the race.
The race consists of 16 miles of running and 1.85 miles of swimming, broken up into 11 run legs and 9 swim legs. The hardest part of the run, is the Moore’s Wall loop. This loop is over 4 miles long with a lot of elevation, including the 642 steps up to the top of the wall. Other parts of the run include the need to navigate up two waterfalls.
Most of the swimming is done in a cold lake, but the longest swim of almost 1,000 yards, is in the Dan River. This is the last swim leg. The race ends with a 50 yards run from the river to the finish at the Green Heron Ale House. Sounds like the perfect place to finish a race.
My teammate and I originally signed up for the SwimRun NC race in December 2019. Like most other races, it got postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I can’t believe it’s almost time to actually be on the start line.
