My new SwimRun wetsuit arrived today. It is an Orca Perform wetsuit, and it fits perfectly. I can’t wait to try it out at my upcoming triathlon camp, where my partner and I will get to practice together.
SwimRun wetsuits are very different to regular Triathlon wetsuits. I wrote all about the differences here. I knew they had pockets, but this wetsuits has lots of them. In addition to the regular zip at the front of the wetsuit, the wetsuit also has a quarter zip at the back, which makes ‘cabbing down’ super easy. Cabbing down is where you take off the upper part of the wetsuit, and run with it around your waist, to avoid over heating.
I am now moving on to securing the other new equipment items that I will need for SwimRun NC in November. I have purchased some shock cord and carabiners, in order to make a tether. This tether will be used on the swim sections, to enable my partner and I to swim close together. By rule we need to be within 10 meters of each other, at all times. I am hoping the tether will enable my partner to drag me through the swims faster (but don’t tell her that!!).
I will also be using extra shock cord, to make a lasso-style mount for my swim buoy. This kind of mount enables you to put the swim buoy out of the way, in the small of your back, while completing the run sections of the race.
The arrival of my new SwimRun wetsuit has got me all excited to do our race in November. I also have to admit that it is fun learning about this new sport, and all the details needed to successfully complete the event.
