This time of year is usually a bit of a down time for working out. What with the Holidays and races being a long way out, there isn’t any urgency to train. After the break I took in October however, I am finding that my current motivation to work out is high.

Today was another day where I felt good about working out.  All that was on my schedule was an easy, 2,000 yard swim.  As I waited to swim this afternoon, I was a little antsy, so I decided to go into the basement and do a strength workout. I did my usual lift routine, but upped the weights by 5 pounds per repetition.  The lifting session went great, even if it did fatigue me a little for my swim.

My swim would have been easy to skip.  My regular pool remains closed for maintenance, and so I needed to make the 90 minute round trip to get to a pool that was open.  Making this kind of trip for just an easy swim is a big time investment, but with my motivation being high, I didn’t even hesitate.

Periods of high motivation don’t happen all the time, so I am embracing this one while it lasts.  How is your motivation right now?
