For my long run today, I chose to go run in a place, where I haven’t run in a long time. I chose to run in the City Of Bridges. I ran in downtown Pittsburgh.
When I first started running, I ran with a run club, that would host a long run every Saturday morning. That run would almost always be in downtown Pittsburgh. It’s been a long time since I did one of those runs, so that is why I chose to go run there today.
Pittsburgh has more bridges than any other city in the world. There are 446 bridges within the city limits. This means that any run that I do in downtown, has to take in some bridges.
My run was a two hour, easy effort run. This enabled me to do a route that crossed nine bridges. I ran over the Monongahela River three times, the Allegheny River five times and once over the Ohio River.
I also passed Heinz Field, PNC Park and PPG Paints Arena; home to the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. In addition, I ran through one of Pittsburgh’s many tunnels, the Armstrong Tunnel.
My legs were tired, but the two hours passed by quickly, as I ran passed so many familiar places. I need to run in the City Of Bridges more often.
