As the old saying goes… “the hay is in the barn’. I did my last hard workout before Ironman Chattanooga this afternoon. Now it is time to fully recover, and get fresh for the race.
My last hard workout wasn’t too difficult. It was just enough to stop my body from completely shutting down. I had a two hour bike ride, that ended with three hard intervals of ten minutes each. This was followed by quick twenty minute run off the bike, with fifteen minutes at target race effort.
I pushed hard on the bike, but was pleased to be still feeling really good, when it came time to run. My legs are not feeling super fresh yet, but underneath the fatigue, I can sense some real strength.
As I wind down the amount of workouts I am doing, I am starting to get irritated by little things. I guess I have the so-called taper tantrums. Today, I got really annoyed because the shifting on my bike was not “perfect”. It was shifting fine, but there was an annoying little sound, while peddling in a couple of the gears. Normally, this wouldn’t bother me, but tomorrow I will work to fix this “issue”.
Not much more to report right now. This weekend is going to be very light in terms of working out, but pretty intense in terms of following races. I have an athlete at Ironman Maryland and lots of teammates racing the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in St. George, Utah. My phone will be busy, even if I will not.
